WHAT WE BELIEVE

We subscribe to and generally agree with the Baptist Faith and Message (BFM). A copy of the BFM may be obtained by contacting the office of Grace Community Church. However, a short list of our doctrinal commitments include the following:

• The Bible is God’s Word to us. It is without error in its original writings and it brings life to us if we will learn and obey it.

• God is an eternal Spirit, the Creator of all that exists. He reveals Himself to us through creation, through the Jewish Scriptures, through Israel’s Messiah, Jesus Christ, and through the writings of the New Testament.

• Jesus Christ is God, of one essence with Him and present and involved at the creation of the world. He was born of a virgin into human flesh, lived a sinless life, died to take our judgment from God for sin, rose from the dead in victory over sin and death, and currently reigns in heaven. He will come again to claim His saints and to reign permanently over heaven and earth.

• The Holy Spirit is God, of one essence with Him and the omnipresent expression of God. He lives in those who have faith in Christ as Savior and ministers to them to progressively conform them to the image of Christ.

• Man, male and female, is made in God’s image but inherits through physical birth the guilt of Adam and an inward inclination to selfish independence. Our guilt can be cleansed only through the blood of Christ, given to provide us with the righteousness of God Himself; and the inner inclination is replaced through the work of the "new creation in Christ" when we believe.

• Salvation is available to us when we trust solely in the work of Christ to pay our legal penalty before God.

• Christian growth occurs as we respond in submission to the Bible and the Holy Spirit regarding our own character, and as we take obedient steps of faith that "push us outside of ourselves."
